I forewarn you, it's a heavy ad that gets straight to the point - a very powerful point.
Because the young girl speaking in the new ad by the Beshear campaign is Hadley Duvall from Owensboro, Kentucky, who was raped and impregnated by her stepfather at age 12.
She had planned an abortion, but miscarried. Her stepfather was convicted of rape and is now in prison.
Now at age 21, with Roe Vs. Wade being overturned and our current state law outlawing all abortions without exception, Hadley realized that under current state law, had she not miscarried, she would've been legally forced to have the child of her rapist stepfather at just 12 years old.
Thus, she says she has a message for Republican gubernatorial candidate, Daniel Cameron, who has repeatedly supported our current extremist state law for "no exceptions" for abortion - even for rape victims, even if they are minor children.
(The ad has gone viral and has now made national and international news, and here, you can see the same ad now being used in South Dakota, where they now have a similar law.)
Powerful, powerful message, delivered by a very articulate, very credible, very brave Hadley Duvall, who's childhood rape/pregnancy case has been well documented and confirmed, resulting in the conviction of her stepfather.
Ordinarily, the identity of such victims is kept anonymous - but Hadley insisted upon coming forward and doing the ads herself, feeling she must come forward after the new state law was passed just after Roe Vs. Wade was overturned.
And in fact, Hadley is not alone in our State of Kentucky - there have been documented cases of rape and incest which resulted in pregnancy in girls as young as 9 years old.
Daniel Cameron initially responded that his "heart goes out to her," but has reaffirmed his position that he supports current state law with no no exceptions.
He has since said that he "might" sign a bill that allowed abortions for rape and incest of minors, but then changed that to "if a (federal) law was passed that made us change our current law."
Sigh.
But Hadley got to him, though - she clearly has him rattled and rethinking his taking such an extremist stance :)
Go Hadley!!!
