I finished my last assignment, and my final exam module opens today, but just wanted to say how excited I am the Obama Center opened this weekend and how much I loved, loved, loved Michelle Obama's speech, bringing him almost to tears, speaking as if giving a heartfelt. soulful sermon we've all needed - how much do we love Michelle?
How much do we miss the Obamas?
For those saying it's a monument to himself like Trump, you don't get it - sure, it has his name on it, but it's a place of hope for those struggling, built on Chicago's South side, opened intentionally on Juneteenth - the holiday where we celebrate the Emancipation Proclamation and freedom from slavery.
Everyone and their brother was there, including all of our last 4 presidents who were at least somewhat sane - including George and Laura Bush.
In fact, the only absent "celebrities" were Trump himself, Vanilla Ice and Milli Vanilli - the only 2 remaining "musical acts" from Trump's now scrapped America 250th concert? 😂
There were originally many artists from both sides of politics because it was initially advertised as nonpartisan, but then Trump decided to claim America's 250th birthday as his own rally, and people from both sides began dropping out.
That's a shame, really - we can't even celebrate America's 250th birthday without Trump making it about himself!
Otherwise, I gotta say, though, as excited as I am about this - not a fan of the building design, but love the concept?
Mark and I were talking about the programs and interactive exhibits there for the kiddos, then started joking about why stop interactive exhibits just for the kids?
Why not have a pie-throwing contest or laser tag, featuring giant light-up MAGA-famous politicians, like 10 points if you hit one in the face?
50 points if you hit diversity-hating Pete Hegseth in the face (who just removed all people of color and women from the military promotion list without explanation) - 100 points if you hit Trump! 😂😂😂
JUST JOKING, of course, and the Obamas would never encourage such a thing - or do something tacky like - oh, I don't know, hold a UFC fight on the White House lawn? 😂
But I digress - love and miss you, Obamas - congratulations on the new center!
