So most of the school board meeting happened behind closed doors, and all we know (from the latest LHL article) is that Dr. Liggins was placed on paid administrative leave and that the board is "not entertaining" a separation agreement with him at this time.
There was no mention in the article regarding how long Dr. Liggins will be on paid leave, only that Dr. Bill Bradley will step in as acting superintendent.
In his resignation letter (that he claims wasn't - see post below), Dr. Liggins requested to be paid his annual salary of $300K for one year after he left.
The LHL article now reports that there was a subsequent email to Board Chair Tyler Murphy, dated today, where he tried to withdraw the request for a separation agreement, as well as cancel the school board meeting.
However, the board refused to do so.
Before going into closed session, several teacher groups publicly denounced giving him any sort of payout.
This is more of a financial decision rather than an indictment on his guilt or innocence regarding the budget - meaning that now that the budget crashed and we are essentially bankrupt - taking out a multimillion dollar loan to make payroll even after the mass firing - we simply do not have the money to afford to pay him that kind of salary for another year PLUS a new superintendent's salary at the same time.
However, the fact that he even asked for that, knowing the shape the budget is in, does not help his case.

PS - Reading the comments under some articles really makes me lose faith in humanity lol.
From the right side of politics - "That's what you get for a DEI hire."
From the left side of politics - "He did nothing wrong, you racist bigots!"
Mind you, none of these people work at Central Office, know anyone that works at Central Office, or knows Dr. Liggins.
For example, they don't know that he was the most qualified candidate out of anyone who applied, at that time, both education and experience - by a long ways!
(Edited: Not sure what that's saying, there's not a lot of people chomping at the bit to become a superintendent in Kentucky, but he genuinely was the most qualified among those who applied.)
They also don't know what we've unfortunately seen outta him since (most of which hasn't come out publicly yet.)
Look, I'm the first one to suspect racism when there's public backlash, believe me - but in this case, the concerns are legit.
Thus, I just want to say "Shut the F up, both sides! Stop trying to make this situation fit your right OR left political narratives. Not everything is about skin color or sex - some things really are about about the content of their character!"
