And again, just like in my pre-Easter post, Christ reminds about Christians being called to humbly serve - NOT arrogantly demand service for themselves over others out of arrogance.
The verse ends with Christ encouraging sacrifice on behalf of humanity if necessary, as he did.
But unlike other "first shall be last and the last shall be first" sermons Christ gives, this one calls out a specific group, even a specific race ....
Mark 10:42-45
"So Jesus called them and said to them, ‘You know that among the Gentiles those whom they recognize as their rulers lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them."
"But it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all."
"For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many’"
Did you catch it?
That's right - Jesus specifically calls out us Gentiles - non-Jewish white people - on our centuries-old historical tendency towards conquest, glorifying our leaders, power abuse, and tyranny and warns his disciples against doing so in leadership.
BOOM!
Did y'all forget this one in favor of other verses, too, or had you never heard it?
If you haven't heard of it despite being Christ's own words in both Mark and Matthew, I'm not surprised. I myself have only heard 2 sermons on this passage in my lifetime.
Thus, White Supremacists, the KKK, "Christian Nationalists" and others supporting this self-glorifying, arrogant, power-abusing, authoritarian-style government in Christ's name are in direct opposition to Christ's words.
