Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love The (Dixie) Chicks would know how excited I was to see them at the DNC, last night, performing an A Capella version of our National Anthem - a little Bluegrass harmonizing for ya, this Friday morning ...
Nice to see you, again Ladies - what happened to you for saying what you really think, after Bush turned the War on Terrorism towards Iraq over WMD that didn't exist - was horrible.
Country radio refused to play their music, people had bonfires of their CDs, it was insane.
But as we know now - they were right (though nobody wants to admit it or apologize for the way they were treated).
I, too, took a lot of flack for saying similar, here in Kentucky, at the time - but I, too, didn't see enough proof of weapons of mass destruction OR that Sadam Hussein had anything to do with 9/11, to justify turning the tide away from Afghanistan and towards Iraq.
And now we know, of course, that Osama bin Laden was at the Afghanistan/Pakistan border the entire time.
(And I will go further for criticism of presidents on both sides - though I'm glad we eventually shifted back to Afghanistan, we should've pulled out of Afghanistan sooner than we did after OBL was killed. I'm no Taliban fan, and I feel sorry for their people, but we cannot afford to police the world.)
Also, for the first time in a long time, my former Army Ranger husband teared up, when he heard the National Anthem - I mean, it's been years since I've seen that from him since pre-Trump and pre-Colin Kaepernick kneeling.
We supported Colin Kaepernick's right to kneel and still do - but watching The Chicks own it, like that, after their careers were nearly ruined by speaking up, too, was inspirational 🥰
Because you do not own patriotism, Trumpers - and true patriotism includes pride in the right to dissent, or even openly criticize the president, in this country.
Also heartwarming to see was another one of my favorite, unapologetically outspoken performers, Pink, with her daughter, Willow, singing an acoustic version of "What About Us?" - Willow's got a little voice blossoming in her, right? Just like her mama.
So Pink was almost a gymnast, but chose that amazing voice instead - and we're so glad she did!
Great job, Ladies!
